It’s a little unbelievable how it all started.
I bought my own place and moved out of my mama’s house in November of 2020. It was then that I realized I had an overwhelming amount of stuff for the new small space I was in. One of the things I had way too much of was lingerie, bras, and panties.
At the time I was also out of work and on a whim I decided to start selling some of my excess stuff on Facebook marketplace. I started selling gently used lingerie and bra and pantie sets for $5.00 a piece.
People JUMPED on this stuff. I could not believe how quickly my used undergarments sold. I should also say, the vast majority of people who bought them were by no means strange. They were mostly regular women who looked like me, dressed like me, and talked like me.
It was then that I realized I had a ton of other stuff that could actually make me real money instead of items for $5.00 a piece.
I started selling anything and everything. I had been storing boxes at my moms house and so I had quite a bit of stuff on hand to sell on Facebook marketplace.
Selling stuff on Facebook marketplace is easy. It’s very user friendly and even though I had never used it prior to then, people have been using it to buy and sell for years.
I then decided to check out Poshmark because I had some higher end items and I had been seeing their commercials for quite some time and was curious what they were all about.
Boy, was that a mistake!
It wasn’t actually a mistake but I quickly discovered Poshmark was quite different from Facebook marketplace. It’s much higher end and the expectations are much different. I was hooked on Facebook marketplace already and I very quickly became even more hooked on Poshmark.
I discovered that selling on Poshmark was just as easy as Facebook marketplace and there is some serious money to be made on that website. I initially bought some items for myself and when I realized I had overspent I managed to flip all of those items on Poshmark for more than what I paid for them. As I mentioned, I also already had a lot of stuff of my own to sell that was a little too high end for Facebook marketplace. Therefore, I was able to make a lot of money quickly.
I’ve always had a creative side to me. I love to scrapbook and adult colour. However, as I have gotten older I have found it more difficult to make time for those hobbies because they require a lot of time, patience, and attention to detail and I have a million other things I should be spending my time doing.
I had always liked to browse Etsy but I was never really one to purchase Etsy products. I just love to window shop and Etsy has so many unique and one of a kind designs.
I had flipped a piece of furniture when I moved into my condo and it occurred to me that for higher profit margins I should start buying cheap furniture to flip (which I did). I thoroughly enjoyed refinishing this furniture and having a creative outlet again. So, I decided to make some front porch signs to sell on Etsy because I already had paint and I personally have always really liked them.
I had also made a ribbon wreath before and I thoroughly enjoyed it when I did it. Therefore, I decided I would start selling both front door signs and wreaths.
It’s only been a few weeks of making wreaths and designing front door signs and I have learned SO MUCH. I can’t even tell you how much time I’ve spent on YouTube watching tutorials! It has been quite a learning experience but it’s also been a lot of fun!
I’m new to this, but I’ve got a lot of super unique and creative ideas. I get better and better at making wreaths and painting signs everyday and I’m really trying to learn how to make them pristine for my customers.
I’m so glad that I decided to open my Etsy store because it has allowed me to have a creative outlet again that I hadn’t realized I had been missing so much.
